HSCC SPRING TROPHY MEETING DONINGTON PARK, 30-31 MAY 2026

Big grids, spectacular cars and fantastic racing across the club’s portfolio of categories proved that delivering members and guest grids value for money is the key to ongoing success in its 60th anniversary year.
Thundersports’ return, while riddled with attrition, provided one of the sights of the weekend. Veteran Frank Bradley (80) wowed onlookers, topping 151mph in blasting Dodkins Motorsport’s massive Interserie March-Chevrolet 717 past eventual victor Mark Richardson’s stunning Lola T290 and holding sway until physical and mental exhaustion spelled retirement.
Jason Timms (Brabham BT21) won the One-Litre Historic F3 championship openers, the latter by 0.013s in a photo-finish with defending champion Peter de la Roche (Alexis Mk17) after cousin Jeremy Timms – runaway leader in his Chevron B15 – fell to fifth when his engine cut out. Ben Tusting topped the Guards Trophy tree, soloing the family Lenham P69 Spyder to victory over Snetterton winner Elliot Paterson’s Ginetta G16.

Mark Dwyer (March 742) shrugged of fine challenges from Chris Porritt (Chevron B40) to win both Derek Bell Trophy races. There were also doubles for John Davison (Lotus Elan S1, Roadsports); Tom Gadd (Van Diemen RF81, SDC Classic FF1600); Ben Glasswell (Reynard SF77, Historic FF2000); Benn Simms (Jomo JMR7, Historic FF1600) and Jamie Thwaites’ fabulous 400bhp Giulietta TCR in the best Alfa Romeo & Italian Intermarque field since it joined the HSCC regulars.

The splendid Dutch Super Sixties Pre-’66 Touring and GT series starred Mazda’s 1991 Le Mans 24 Hours victor Volker Weidler, class winner in a Ford Falcon Sprint. Graham Moss (Daytona Cobra) and Dave Methley (Marcos 1800GT) took the chequers, chased by Jan van de Kooi (Elan) and Roelant de Waard (Shelby GT350).
